West Palm Beach, FL—Florida Department of Health in Palm Beach County completed the trifecta of leadership recognition this week when Timothy G, Mayer, MPH, Director of the Environmental Public Health Division was recognized with a Path Award for Environmental Health from the Robert Stempel College of Public Health and Social Work at Florida International University. Earlier Doctors Alina Alonso and Robert Parkes were named Heroes in Medicine by the Palm Beach County Medical Society.

"Each individual and organization recognized with a Path Award has left an indelible imprint on the fabric of our community through advocacy, leadership and passion to promote the wellness of all residents of South Florida," said Chair of the 2016 Path Awards Host Committee, Gail Appelrouth.

Mayer directs all environmental programs delegated under Florida Health Palm Beach County, Florida Department of Environmental Protection and those programs authored under the Palm Beach County Environmental Control Act.

With more than 32 years of environmental public health experience Mayer has truly dedicated his life’s work to the people of Florida by serving in Broward, Monroe, Polk, Okaloosa and Palm Beach Counties and the Health Programs Office in Tallahassee.

"Having worked throughout the state I have learned firsthand that protecting the people from their environment is an excellent path to better health." Mayer added that much of what he and his team oversees assures the community there is safe water to drink, beaches remain clean, that sewage is disposed of properly and the air we breathe remains in the good range.

Mayer has served on many community boards and committees, authored numerous journal articles and is past president of the Florida Environmental Health Association.
