Environmental Public Health

A Family Child Care Home is an occupied residence in which child care is regularly provided for children from at least two unrelated families to the operator. The provider receives a payment, fee or grant for any of the children receiving care whether for profit or nonprofit.

Family Child Care Home and Large Family Child Care Homes have the same definition. The main distinction is that the maximum capacity for a Family Child Care Home is 6 children (conditions apply) while Large Family Child Care Homes may care for up to 12 children (conditions apply). Too qualify for a Large Family Child Care license, a provider must successfully operate for at least 2 years as a Family Child Care Home.
